| Post Surgery Instructions |

1. |
You should plan to go home and
rest for the remainder of the day. You will be given medications that will temporarily impair your
judgment and reflexes. Therefore, for the next twenty- four (24) hours, you should not: |

• |
Drive a car, operate machinery or operate power tools. |
|
| |
|
• |
Drink any alcoholic beverages, take tranquilizers, or sleeping pills. |
|
| |
|
• |
Make critical decisions such as signing legal documents. |
|
| |
2. |
If
your physician has given you a prescription, it should be filled
at a pharmacy of your choice and then taken as directed. You may
resume any other medications you have been taking unless advised
not to by your doctor |

3. |
You may resume your usual diet as tolerated. Begin with liquids
and light foods (soda pop, tea, jello, soup, etc.). If you are
not nauseated, you may progress to your usual diet. |

4. |
Nausea and vomiting may occasionally occur after surgery. If you
are nauseated, remain on clear liquids until it passes. If it
should persist for any length of time at home, notify your doctor. |
|

5. |
For your safety and protection, it is required that you have a
responsible caregiver with you for 24 hours after your procedure. |
|
| |
6. |
If you had a regional nerve block, numbness to the affected area
may last up to 36 hours. The use and exposure of the affected
area should be restricted. Take your pain medication as prescribed
by your surgeon at bedtime, or as soon as pain or discomfort begins. |

7. |
At time of your discharge, you and your caregiver will be given
instructions specific to your surgical procedure and surgeon. |
